About Us

St. Peter’s is first and foremost a community—a community of people who worship together, learn together, and join together in a range of activities to help our neighbors and promote a more just world.  Through our various ministries in the community, we provide shelter, food and fellowship to those experiencing homelessness; help preserve God’s creation; assist refugee families in collaboration with Lutheran World Relief; and support local food pantries.  We gather together regularly to deepen our faith through the study of scripture and contemporary Christian commentary, and to discuss how Christians should respond to current challenges in the world. We also open our doors to the community, providing a home for a variety of community-based programs and arts projects.

STAFF AND LEADERSHIP

Lena new_edited.jpg

Pastor Lena describes herself as a “pastor, creator, writer, life coach, community organizer, environmentalist, and wanderer.” She currently serves as a part-time Companion Pastor here at St. Peter’s and at Grace Lutheran Church in Greenwood Lake. A pastor since 2010, Pastor Lena served at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pearl River, NY for more than nine years. She earned a MDiv from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia in 2008 and an STM at Yale Divinity School in 2010, where she specialized in body theology. “I think God cares about our bodies—broken, messy, and frustrating as they can be; and, I think that when God makes the world right, our bodies and all of dusty creation will be a part of that right-making. I’m not interested in spirituality that is separate from the world around me.” Pastor Lena also loves agriculture and sustainable development and earned an MS in Plant and Soil Sciences at the University of Tennessee and a BS in Environmental Science from Newberry College.
